Success Tips – Time-Management: 6-Month Study Calendar Template
The #1 Reason Aspirants Fail: Poor Time Management
You can have the best notes, the best faculty, and the best motivation. But if you can’t manage your time, you will fail.
Every year, hundreds of Arunachal aspirants join coaching, study for 10 hours a day, but still miss the cut-off. Why?
- No Plan: They study randomly, jumping from History to Economy to Current Affairs.
- No Revision: They read once and never revise.
- No Balance: They over-prepare for Prelims and ignore Mains, or vice versa.
BMCC IAS, the Best IAS Institute for Arunachal Pradesh PSC, has designed a 6-Month Study Calendar Template that ensures complete syllabus coverage, revision, and mock tests – all without burnout.
The 6-Month Blueprint (For APPSCCE 2026)
Assumption: You have 6 months (March–August 2026) before Prelims.
| Month | Focus | Daily Hours | Key Activities |
|---|---|---|---|
| Month 1 | Foundation (NCERT + State Gazetteer) | 6–7 hrs | History, Geography, Polity, Economy(NCERT 6–12) + Gazetteer reading. |
| Month 2 | Advanced GS (Standard Books) | 7–8 hrs | Laxmikanth (Polity), Spectrum (History), ITE (Economy), Shankar IAS (Environment). |
| Month 3 | Optional Subject (Paper I) | 8–9 hrs | Geography/Sociology/PSIR (Paper I) + Map drills + PYQs. |
| Month 4 | Prelims Sprint (GS + CSAT) | 8–9 hrs | 100+ MCQs/day, CSAT (Quant+Reasoning), Current Affairs (Last 6 months). |
| Month 5 | Full Mock Tests + Revision | 9–10 hrs | 2 Full Mocks/week, CSAT Mocks, Revision of Notes. |
| Month 6 | Final Push (Only Revision) | 6–7 hrs | No new topics. Revise PYQs, Current Affairs, CSAT formulas. |

For Full-Time Aspirants: Add 2 more hours (11 hrs total) – Morning (4 hrs) + Evening (7 hrs).
Weekly & Monthly Goals
Weekly Goals (Every Sunday)
- Write 3 GS Answers (150 words).
- Take 1 Full Mock Test (GS + CSAT).
- Revise All Notes from the week.
Monthly Goals (End of Month)
- Complete 1 Major Subject (e.g., Polity in Month 1).
- Analyze Mock Performance: Identify weak areas (e.g., Economy, CSAT Quant).
- Adjust Plan: Spend more time on weak areas next month.
The “Revision Rule”: 3-4-5-6
Never read something once. Use the 3-4-5-6 rule:
- 3rd Day: Revise what you read Day 1.
- 4th Week: Revise the entire month’s notes.
- 5th Month: Revise full PYQs and mock tests.
- 6th Month: Only revision (no new topics).
Why?
- Memory retention is 20% after 1 day, 5% after 1 month.
- Revision boosts retention to 80%.
BMCC IAS Time-Management Tools
1. Digital Calendar (Google Calendar)
- Color-coded: Green (GS), Blue (Optional), Red (CSAT), Yellow (Current Affairs).
- Reminders: Set alarms for daily goals.
2. BMCC IAS Study Tracker (Excel)
- Track daily hours, questions attempted, mock scores.
- Graph: See your progress over 6 months.
3. 48-Hour Accountability
- Mentor Check-in: Every 48 hours, your mentor checks your daily log.
- If you’re behind: Adjust the plan; don’t quit.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Over-Scheduling: Don’t plan 12 hours/day if you can only do 6. Start slow, build up.
- Ignoring CSAT: 33% is the qualifying mark. Don’t neglect it.
- No Breaks: Take 10-min breaks every 90 mins. Burnout is real.
- Chasing New Resources: Stick to 1-2 books per subject. Don’t jump.
